Gordon Composites produces two basic material types: laminates and bar
stock.
Laminate materials range in thickness from .020” (.5mm)
to .080” (2.0mm)
and a maximum width of 18” (E-glass only). The three primary fiber
types used in these products are E-glass, S-Glass and Carbon. Specialty
laminates incorporating weft and scrim inlays with the fundamental unidirectional
laminate are also available. In some cases these materials can combine
two fiber types to satisfy end-product needs.
Bar stock is an E-glass material with thicknesses up
to .550” and
width up to 8.75”. All materials are machined
to size with a surface finish prepared to fit customer requirements.

Many of the products we produce require a laminated molding step to optimize
product performance. In this operation the most basic lamination consists
of bonding two layers of composite together. From there the number of layers
will increase to not more than five layers. In almost all cases a core
produced from the bar stock material is incorporated into the design.
Products that are laminated generally incur some post-production operation
in terms of sizing or trimming, drilling of holes and surface finish or
preparation. These fabrication processes have been developed and refined
by Gordon Composites and are today considered to be among the company’s
core competencies.
